PANO - Minister of National Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh, on August 15th, received visiting General Petr Pavel, Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army.
General Phung Quang Thanh held that the Czech delegation’s visit to Vietnam would contribute to promoting the friendship and mutual understanding between the two armies and peoples, in accordance with the framework of their Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperation.

The Vietnamese host appreciated the Czech people’s assistance to Vietnam in the past and in the current national reconstruction cause. He also praised that overseas Vietnamese community has been recognized as an ethnic minority in the Czech Republic.
For his part, General Petr Pavel thanked General Phung Quang Thanh for his warm reception and hoped that the two sides would foster their defence cooperation in the time to come.
In addition, he added that Vietnam and Czech had potentials in fields of electronic warfare, education and training, equipment purchasing, and delegation exchanges.

Earlier in the day, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army cum Deputy Minister of National Defence, held talks with General Petr Pavel.
They exchanged views on international and regional issues and reviewed their achievements of the defence cooperation relations over the past time.
The two sides also agreed to further promote their cooperation, especially in delegation exchanges, education and training, defence industry, scientific researches, and management of weapons and military equipment.
