Reporting to Defense Ministers Phan Van Giang and Dong Jun, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Hong Ha, Commanding Officer of the post, said that the unit is tasked with managing and protecting national border and other border markers near the areas under the management of Hekou Immigration Border Checkpoint, Talks Station, Honghe Border Management Unit, and Battalion B of the Border Station of Yunnan province’s Hekou.

The official added that over the past years, the relations between the two sides’ border protection forces have been constantly strengthened and developed. The two sides have seriously and responsibly realized three legal documents on Vietnam-China border, the border cooperation agreement signed by the two defense ministries on November 12, 2017, and other minutes of bilateral talks. They have also exerted utmost efforts to effectively manage and safeguard the border, control immigration, combat crimes. They have regularly held talks, meetings, exchanges, joint patrols, discussions via hotline, and enhanced administrative reform and application of information technology in order to facilitate cross-border entry and exit.

Attentively, the twinning models between the Border Post of Lao Cai International Border Gate and Battalion B of Hekou Border Station and Hekou Immigration Checkpoint have brought about effective outcomes. The two sides’ border protection forces have given recommendations to the authorities of the localities where they are stationed to boost people-to-people diplomacy and connect residential clusters on both sides of the shared borderline.

These aforementioned achievements have helped raise understanding, promote solidarity and mutual trust between the two sides; therefore, they could jointly address issues of common concern for a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Expressing the Chinese delegation’s impression on the training conditions and capacity of the post’s border guard troops, Major General Ren Zhengyu, Deputy Chief of Staff of China’s Southern Theater Command Ground Force, highlighted the unit’s training programs, troops’ solidarity and their promotion of the role of keeping peace and stability in the China-Vietnam border areas.

An overview of the visit

The Chinese general expressed thanks to the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam for organizing the eighth Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange and stressed that activities within the exchange are practical to actualize important common perceptions of the two countries and militaries’ leaders.

He underlined that the border protection force of the ground force of China’s Southern Theater Command has maintained close coordination and exchanges with the border guard forces of seven border provinces of Vietnam. Additionally, the Hekou Talks Station and the Border Post of Lao Cai International Border Gate signed their twinning ties in 2018. He spoke highly of the outcomes of the two sides’ periodical talks, joint patrols, exchanges of letters, and phone talks in resolving border-related issues. He hoped that the two sides would promote their traditional friendship, border cooperation, quality and efficiency of border defense friendship exchanges.
