During the talks, both sides evaluated the results of their coordination in border gate management, immigration control, and the prevention and combat of cross-border crimes during the first quarter of this year. They also discussed and agreed on directions for future cooperation.

In detail, the two sides agreed that in the coming period they will regularly notify each other of arising issues at the border gate, coordinate in regulating and promptly handling situations, improve the effectiveness of border gate control, maintain order in immigration procedures, strengthen border management, and ensure security and stability in the Lao Cai–Hekou international border gate area.
They also agreed to step up information dissemination and education among people in both sides of the shared borderline to raise their awareness of law and the observance of regulations and policies on border gates and national borders; while resolutely prevent and address cross-border violations.
They will continue to maintain and strengthen cooperation mechanisms such as regular talks, information exchange, liaison officers, hotline, and joint emergency responses; continue exchanges, appoint friendship envoys, and collaborate to promote law dissemination, in line with the three legal documents on the Vietnam–China land border and each country’s laws.
In addition, the two sides agreed to report to higher levels on organizing professional exchange activities, including training on detecting fake documents, and to enhance coordination in managing cross-border vehicles. Coordination will be strengthened in managing vehicles entering and exiting the border gate, improving guidance and traffic flow to ensure orderly, efficient, and smooth operations.

The delegations also expressed strong support for the construction of a cross-border bridge over the river linking Ba Sa (China) and Bat Xat (Vietnam), while pledging to strictly supervise construction activities in accordance with the land border management agreement. Both sides aim to jointly develop the Lao Cai-Hekou border gate pairs into a model of effective cooperation along the Vietnam-China land border.
On this occasion, the heads of the two sides presented the Friendship Envoy title for the first quarter of 2026, voted by passengers and border people, to Major Nguyen Viet Dung, deputy head of the Border Station of Kim Thanh international border gate No.2 (Vietnam), and an officer of Hekou Immigration Border Inspection Station (China).
