Commander of the Viet Nam Border Guard Lt. Gen. Vu Trung Kien and Chief of the Royal Cambodia Navy Admiral Tea Sokha co-chaired the event.
At the talks, the two sides noted that the Vietnamese border guard force and the Cambodian naval force effectively implemented cooperation in managing and maintaining security and order in the historic waters and adjacent maritime areas between the two countries. They have directed their subordinate units to strictly implement the Agreement on Historic Waters between Viet Nam and Cambodia, signed on July 7, 1982, and coordinate the management of maritime activities, facilitating economic and livelihood activities in the area.
The two sides have also regularly exchanged information, coordinated situation monitoring and addressed emerging issues in the historic waters and adjacent maritime areas. Their cooperation covers the management of vessels and fishermen, search and rescue operations, and the exchange of information, verification and handling of maritime security and public order incidents within each side’s respective functions and authority.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and reached agreement on several issues concerning coordination to maintain security and order in the Viet Nam-Cambodia historic waters, as well as orientations for cooperation between the two forces in the coming period.
They agreed to continue coordinating efforts to ensure security and safety while facilitating lawful fishing activities by fishermen from both countries. They also agreed to step up dissemination to encourage fishermen to comply with their respective countries’ laws and regulations on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The two sides will also enhance information sharing and close coordination in preventing and combating transnational crime, conducting search and rescue operations in the historic waters and adjacent maritime areas, and implementing measures to protect the marine environment and conserve and sustainably exploit marine living resources.
