USS Tripoli, USS Robert Smalls arrive in Da Nang
PANO - Guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls and America-class amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli, carrying more than 2,000 officers and sailors under the command of Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz, Commander of U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group 7, arrived at Tien Sa Port on December 8, starting a four-day friendly visit to Da Nang City.
A welcome ceremony held at the port was attended by representatives from the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, the Naval Region 3 Command, Military Command, the Border Guard Command, the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of National Defense, and relevant agencies.

During the visit, the ships’ commanding officers will pay courtesy calls on the leaders of Da Nang City People’s Committee and Naval Region 3; participate in professional exchanges and sports activities with naval officers; meet with children at the Hope Village and students of the University of Foreign Language Studies of Da Nang University; and take part in local cultural and sightseeing activities.
The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - U.S. diplomatic relations. The visit of the U.S. Navy task group to Da Nang City contributes to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2023.
With its tourism, cultural, and economic potential, and hospitality, Da Nang City is ready to serve as a bridge for defense and security cooperation, cultural and sports exchanges, and experience sharing between the two navies.
