During the meeting, the Vietnamese defense leader emphasized that, in recent years, the bilateral defense cooperation has achieved significant and substantive results, remaining one of the key pillars of Vietnam - Laos relations. The two sides have cooperated closely and effectively in various areas, including delegation exchanges at all levels; training; Party and political work; border management and protection; and coordination and mutual support at multilateral military - defense forums.

Looking ahead, given the rapidly changing and complex global and regional landscape, General Thang underscored that to elevate Vietnam - Laos defense cooperation to new heights, both sides should focus on effectively implementing the agreements outlined in the protocol and annual cooperation plan. These include strengthening coordination in communication and education on the great friendship between the two countries; sharing information and assessments to advise the Party and State leadership on strategic issues affecting each country’s defense and security; and promoting cooperation among services, arms, logistics, technical, and defense industry sectors.

For his part, the Lao Defense Minister highlighted the significance of General Thang’s visit to Laos as the country prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its National Day.

Expressing gratitude to the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for its coordination in organizing the fair, the host said the event held meaningful practical value in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lao National Day.

He affirmed that despite changes in the regional and global environment, the armed forces and people of both countries remain steadfast in their solidarity and mutual support. The Lao Minister of National Defense noted that both sides should continue close coordination and effective implementation of the protocol, programs, and cooperation plans to ensure that defense cooperation remains a vital pillar of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
