The meeting adopted a Joint Statement affirming that humanitarian assistance and disaster relief remain a noble shared responsibility of ASEAN armies.

Addressing the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia commended the theme of ACAMM-26, noting that climate change and natural disasters, such as storms, flooding, landslides, and typhoons, have become increasingly unpredictable. He emphasized that armies are always the first to deploy and directly engage in disaster prevention, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief activities.

The head of the Vietnamese delegation shared the VPA’s experience in disaster response, stressing that humanitarian assistance and disaster relief tasks embody the universal values of humanity and represent the noble missions of ASEAN armies.

He underscored the need for ASEAN armies to further enhance exchanges and experience-sharing in climate adaptation, strengthen comprehensive disaster preparedness and response capabilities, and make full use of existing ASEAN mechanisms to realize the vision of “One ASEAN, One Response.”

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia affirmed that as a responsible member of ASEAN and the international community, the VPA remains committed to actively participating in multilateral and bilateral cooperation initiatives among ASEAN armies to effectively address both traditional and non-traditional security challenges, contributing to a peaceful, stable, and sustainably developing region.

On the sidelines of the meeting, he held bilateral meetings with the head delegates from Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei, and exchanged views with other ASEAN army leaders on enhancing cooperation in areas such as high-level delegation exchanges, training, cybersecurity, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief collaboration.
