Defense leader urges further research and development of T-1 light tank
PANO - On April 24, Deputy Defense Minister Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Hoai Nam inspected the progress of the research and production of the T-1 light tank at Factory Z125 under the General Department of Defense Industry.
Under the direction of the Ministry of National Defense’s leadership, Factory Z125 has coordinated with relevant agencies and units to reorganizing technological production spaces to serve the manufacturing of the T-1 light tank. They have already prepared separate workshops for production and final assembly, and for manufacturing component parts.

Up to now, the factory has basically completed the prototype assembly of the T-1 light tank for testing and evaluation, serving as the basis for further product refinement.
According to the leadership of the General Department of Defense Industry, one of the outstanding features of the T-1 light tank is its modern design, open architecture, and modular capability, facilitating the use of different types of weapons and military equipment. Notably, the tank has superior technical and tactical features in terms of firepower, mobility, and survival.
On conducting an on-site inspection and hearing reports from functional agencies, Gen. Nam applauded Factory Z125 and related units for overcoming difficulties and actively carrying out the project.

He requested the General Department of Defense Industry and Factory Z125 to embrace higher level’s guidance regarding detailed design adjustments of the tank’s components to ensure aesthetics, while focusing on breakthrough technical solutions and the application of advanced, modern technologies so that the tank can operate effectively in all combat situations.
He also directed the units to urgently complete the product for testing and evaluation in May 2026 and proceed with mass production for display at the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026.
