Russian Deputy PM visits Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center

Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam and Head of the Vietnamese Subcommittee of the Intergovernmental Coordinating Committee for the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center, chaired the reception for the Russian delegation.

At the working session, Gen. Chien emphasized that in 2024, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia was continuously consolidated and developed. Many high-level contacts were organized with active contribution of the two countries’ ministries and sectors and the committee. Attentively, during these contacts, the two sides gained important outcomes, including the approval of the strategy on developing the center by 2035, enhancement of the transfer of the research vessel named “Professor Gagarinskiy,” and the building of laboratory infrastructure for disease prevention and control.

For his part, Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Nikolayevich Chernyshenko expressed thanks to the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam for its warm and thoughtful welcome. He said that over the past time the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) has cooperated with the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center to conduct over 60 research expeditions, research some 500 strains of infectious agents, and publicize nearly 100 scientific articles.

On the occasion, the Russian Deputy PM and Gen. Chien witnessed the handover of a mobile laboratory from Russia to the center. The laboratory can carry out 800 tests a day and operate in hard-to-access areas.

The Russian government leader affirmed Russia’s further support for Vietnam in building independent research infrastructure, strengthening cooperation in the framework of the center and assisting Vietnam in improving its dangerous disease outbreak response capability.
