RoK’s naval ships visit Da Nang city
PANO - Two naval ships from the Republic of Korea (RoK) with 633 officers and sailors on board, led by Rear Admiral Yang Yong-mo, commander of the RoK maritime patrol training group, docked at Tien Sa port on September 18, starting their official visit to the central city of Da Nang.

During the four-day visit, officers and sailors aboard the ROKS Kang Gam Chan (DDH-979) and ROKS Hwacheon (AOE-59) will meet with leadership of the municipal People’s Committee, visit the Naval Region 3 Command and present school supplies to children at the city’s charity centers.
The Korean navy band will have a performance at the Bien Dong (East Sea) Park.
The guests will also present 11,000 Korean language teaching books to the city’s library, foreign language university and other units in the city.
The ROKS Kang Gam Chan, a destroyer launched in March 2006, is tasked to scout, patrol and attack surface targets. The ship, 150m long, 17.4m wide and 9.5m high, has a displacement of more than 5,500 tons. With its two MTU diesel engines and two LM2500 marine gas turbines, the ship can operate at speeds of 54km/h and at a maximum distance of about 6,500km. It is equipped with land attack cruise missiles, anti-ship and anti-submarine missiles.
The RoKS Hwacheon, a Cheonji-class fast combat support ship, is entrusted with fuel, food and rescue supplies for combat forces at sea.
Talking with the press, Rear Admiral Yang Yong-Mo said that the visit aimed to enhance and deepen the two countries’ strategic partnership. It was a significant visit, especially at the time when the two countries are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic ties (December 22, 1992).
