The two defense officials made the statement during a meeting at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense on December 14. At the reception, General Lich highly valued the Malaysian delegation’s visit, saying that it would help enhance the friendship and mutual understanding between the two militaries.

For his part, the Malaysian official briefed the host on the outcomes of the talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh.

Both sides also spoke highly of the bilateral defense cooperation with practical outcomes in various fields.

Earlier the same day, at the talks between the Malaysian and Vietnamese Defense Ministry delegations, headed by the Malaysian official and Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, the two sides affirmed that the Malaysian delegation’s visit was part of the activities in realizing the agreements inked during General Ngo Xuan Lich’s official visit to Malaysia in October this year.

They also underscored that the bilateral defense cooperation has continuously developed and gained pragmatic results, on the basis of agreements between the two defense ministries, including the MoU on bilateral defense cooperation signed in 2008 and the Letter of Intent on defense cooperation inked in 2015.

Both sides agreed to fully and effectively implement cooperation contents of the deals in the coming time with a focus on early establishing and deploying cooperation mechanisms within the framework of the High-level Committee on Defense Cooperation and Working Groups with the aim of developing bilateral defense ties in a practical manner.

They showed their agreement on boosting exchanges to have a common voice on regional and international security issues on the sidelines of multilateral forums, in which they are members, especially the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), the ADMM Plus, in contribution to maintaining solidarity among ASEAN members and promoting the central role of ASEAN, for peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole.
