Japanese Self-Defense Forces’ founding anniversary observed in Vietnam
PANO – The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony on December 15 in Hanoi, in celebration of the 66th anniversary of the foundation of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan attended and delivered a speech at the event.

At the event, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio briefed the delegates on the establishment and development of the forces over the past 66 years and the outcomes of the Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation over the past time, especially in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, General Tan congratulated Japanese generals and officers on the 66th founding anniversary of the Japanese Self-defense Forces. He emphasized that with a firm foundation in Vietnam-Japan relationship, the bilateral defense cooperation has seen strong developments, serving as an important pillar in the bilateral relations.
He also expressed a strong belief that with their goodwill and demand for international cooperation, the Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation in particular and bilateral friendship in general will be lifted to a new height for peace, stability, and prosperity of each country and of the region.
