PANO - INS Sahyadri, a Shivalik class stealth multi-role frigate of the Indian Navy, with nearly 400 officers and sailors on board, captained by Senior Colonel Kunal Singh Rajkumar, anchored in Tien Sa port, in the central city of Da Nang on the morning of October 2nd, starting its five-day visit to the city.

Welcoming the ship were representatives from the Naval Command, Naval Region 3 Command, the Department of External Relations of the Ministry of National Defence, Military Zone 5 Command, the city’s Border Guard Command and Military Command, the city’s Department of Foreign Affairs, the Indian Embassy of Vietnam and the Indian military attaché to Vietnam.

The 6,000 ton INS Sahyadri, equipped with abundant resources and measuring142.5m in length and 16.9m in width, has a displacement of 4.5m and operates at a speed of 32 nautical miles per hour (equivalent with 59km an hour)

The visit aims to bolster the cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the two armies and navies.

During their stay, the ship’s representatives will pay a courtesy visit to leaders of the city’s People’s Committee, Military Zone 5 and Naval Region 3 Commands. Moreover, the Indian officers and crew members will have a friendly volleyball match with Naval Region 3 Command’s staff.

Before leaving Da Nang city, Naval Region 3 Command and the Indian naval ship’s members will have a sand-table discussion and conduct a joint exercise on search and rescue at sea.

This is the third consecutive year Indian naval ships have made friendly visits to Da Nang city.
