Reportedly, the Ministry of National Defense oriented the defense external affairs in accordance with the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies, the resolutions of the 10th Military Party Congress and the decisions of the Central Military Commission on defense-military missions in 2019.

Relevant military units provided timely advice to the Ministry of National Defense on promoting international integration as well as bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation activities.

At the event, delegates agreed that defense external affairs are a significant channel, contributing to safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, protecting the Party and the people, and to heightening the country’s position in the world.

Notably, both the bilateral and multilateral defense external affairs have obtained good results over the past time. The multilateral defense external affairs were the main mission in the third quarter of this year with a number of activities carried out by the defense ministry in preparation for Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

Discussing the next quarter’s missions, delegates agreed that defense external affairs should be implemented in accordance with the resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress, the developments of the regional and international situations, and the plans for the overseas visits of senior Party, State, and military leaders, and for their meetings with foreign leaders who visit Vietnam. In addition, the bilateral defense relations should be fostered comprehensively with a focus on defense policy dialogues and consultancies, resettlement of war-left consequences, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and UN peacekeeping operations.
