Defense minister extends condolences to Greek-Vietnamese hero
PANO – Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang has sent a letter of condolences to Vietnamese Ambassador in Greece Le Hong Truong over the death of Kostas Sarantidis, a Greek native, who was conferred with the title of the Hero of the Vietnam People’s Armed Forces under his Vietnamese name Nguyen Van Lap.

Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap, the first and only Greek-Vietnamese Hero of the People's Armed Forces of Vietnam, just passed away in Greece on June 25.
In his letter, General Giang expressed his deep condolences over the passing of Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap.
“On behalf of the Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to you and the family and relatives of comrade Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap. I hope that his family will soon overcome this great loss and continue implementing his unfinished plans, contributing to enhancing Vietnam-Greece solidarity,” the defense minister wrote.
General Giang also affirmed that the death of comrade Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap is considered a great loss to the Party, State and Vietnam People's Army. The defense minister underlined that comrade Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap set an example of courage, will and revolutionary morality, the personality of an international Uncle Ho’s soldier.
“We are always proud of and will educate generations of officers and soldiers in the Vietnam People's Army about the good virtue of our dear comrade,” added General Giang.
“Farewell to our comrade Kostas Sarantidis Nguyen Van Lap!” he concluded.
