Coast Guard Ship 8002 docks at Manila port, the Philippines

PANO - On August 5, Coast Guard Ship 8002 of Flotilla 21, Coast Guard Region 2, together with a delegation of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, led by Colonel Hoang Quoc Dat, Second-in-command of Coast Guard Region 2, docked at Manila port, the Philippines, starting its official visit and exchange with the Philippine peers.

Commodore Arnaldo M. Lim, Director of the Coast Guard Strategic Studies and International Affairs Center, hosted a reception for the Vietnamese delegation.

The event was also attended by Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Son, Vietnamese Defense Attaché to the Philippines.

Commodore Arnaldo M. Lim welcomed Colonel Hoang Quoc Dat and the Vietnamese delegation to Manila and emphasized that the visit demonstrates the strength and depth of the relationship between the two forces, while contributing to enhancing the bilateral relations. The presence of Ship 8002 is a strong symbol of common goals, especially in the fields of maritime safety and security, demonstrating Vietnam’s active membership in the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum. This is also the a testament to the trust and collaboration shaping the bilateral relationship over the past time.

For his part, Colonel Hoang Quoc Dat noted that this is the first time the Vietnam Coast Guard Command has sent a ship to visit and exchange with the Philippine Coast Guard in Manila.

As scheduled, the Vietnamese delegation will pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Philippine Coast Guard, visit the headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard, and join a sports exchange and a joint drill with the Philippine Coast Guard.

Colonel Hoang Quoc Dat stressed that the visit and exchange will contribute to boosting friendship, cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the Vietnam People’s Army, the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine military and Coast Guard.

After the reception, Commodore Arnaldo M. Lim and the Philippine delegation visited Ship 8002.

Departing on July 31, after a long journey at sea, Coast Guard Ship 8002 arrived in the Philippines as scheduled, with absolute safety. During the sea journey, the troops strictly maintained all regulations and orders, and practiced handling situations at sea.
