Vietnam Coast Guard’s leader receives Japanese diplomat

During the reception, the two sides reviewed the cooperation results between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard in the first half of 2024. The cooperation included key activities such as exchanging delegations at various levels and organizing training courses and experience-sharing sessions within the framework of the non-project training cooperation program to enhance the capacity of the Vietnam Coast Guard. It also included law enforcement training at sea, training aboard the Kojima patrol vessel, and training courses in Japan.

Major General Vu Trung Kien expressed the Vietnam Coast Guard's appreciation for the Japan Coast Guard's efforts in organizing training courses and sharing experience. These activities proved effective, helping improve the Vietnam Coast Guard's capabilities and response to various situations. Additionally, they contributed to strengthening mutual understanding and trust between the two maritime law enforcement forces.

For his part, Mr. Kato Tetsuro affirmed that since the signing of the memorandum of cooperation in 2015, the Japan Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard have engaged in many cooperative activities, contributing to building a strong relationship. During his three-year tenure as First Secretary at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, Kato Tetsuro has committed himself to further contributing to the development of cooperation between the two forces.

At the meeting, both sides also discussed the coordination to complete procedures related to the non-project equipment donation program for Vietnam’s Coast Guard Training Center. For bilateral cooperation in the second half of the year, they agreed to organize the 11th Bilateral Meeting between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard, scheduled to take place in December this year.
