Cambodian noble order bestowed on Vietnamese general
PANO - The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, in association with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, on January 10 held a ceremony to bestow the First-class Royal Order of Sahametrei of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Major General Hoang The Thien at the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Museum in the city.
Deceased Major General Hoang The Thien (1922-1995) was a former alternate member of the fourth Party Central Committee, former Deputy Defense Minister, and former Political Commissar of the Truong Son Army. He was a renowned general of the Vietnam People's Army and had great contributions in the cause of the resistance war, reunification of the nation, national construction and defense cause, and international service.

At the proposal of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdec Techo Hun Sen, on November 22, 2019, the Cambodian King Preah Karuna Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni decided to bestow the First-class Royal Order of Sahametrei on the Vietnamese general. This is the most valuable and honorable award given by the Kingdom of Cambodia to individuals with great contributions to building and developing the friendship between the two nations.
Especially, Gen. Thien had important contributions to the Cambodian revolution in the period of 1978-1982.
This is the first time that the Kingdom of Cambodia has awarded the most noble order to a foreigner who made great contributions to the country and Cambodian people.
On the occasion, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdec Techo Hun Sen also presented flowers and badges to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal regime to Gen. Thien's family. The presentation aims to express the Cambodian people's gratitude to Major General Hoang The Thien for his contributions to the Cambodian national liberation struggle.
At the event, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia presented souvenirs to individuals and groups organizing the ceremony.
