Reportedly, during the contest, the team overcame difficulties and challenges to best execute their artillery fire at the target with the length of 19m and the height of 5m, and the distance ranging from 9.6km to 8km from the ship. In heavy fog and level-five sea state, Naval Captain Hoang Anh, Captain of the ship cum Shooting Commander, directed all team members to make full use of equipment to locate the target. As a result, the team successfully completed their fire performance with target destroyed right after the first two shots.

In addition to shooting, athletes should also quickly reach the finish line. The fastest team will be the winner, according to the contest’s regulations. Therefore, the ship had to maintain its speed from 5 to 13 knots at a safe distance. In general, the Vietnamese crew-members achieved all of their set goals.

Head of the Artillery-Missile Division of the 016-Quang Trung (Brigade 162, Naval Region 4) Naval Senior Lieutenant Pham Ngoc Dat held that it is hard to identify and aim at sea targets under these tough sea conditions. “Nevertheless, thanks to practical experience and training over the past time as well as the close coordination among all team members, we accomplished the shooting competition with good results,” he added.
