Starbucks, the giant American coffee company, opened its second store in Ho Chi Minh City on August 1, just six months after making its initial appearance in Vietnam.
Starbucks entered Vietnam under a licensing agreement with the Maxim's Group.
Patricia Marques, general manager of Coffee Concepts Vietnam, a subsidiary of Hong Kong Maxim's Group told Vietnam News that "the way Starbucks approaches the market is very conservative", and that the new store was in a good location, at the crossroads of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Du streets in District 1.
Asked about the revenue and number of daily customers at the first Starbucks store, Marques declined to comment. But she did reveal that the company was happy with its performance, describing the area as a "successful market".
"We are here to stay," she said, adding that the company would expand to other provinces but no "specific day" had been designated.
"The third store will be in Ho Chi Minh City," she said.
As part of the opening celebrations, Starbucks is donating all transactions from the morning of its opening day to the Ga Saigon Shelter, a charity house under the City Woman's Charity Association which takes care of 20 girls aged 6-16, who need financial support to attend school.
