The Viettel Global Investment Joint-Stock Corporation (Viettel Global) announced that Mytel has made a record when it has had more than 3 million customers since its official operation in the market. Of the three million Mytel service customers, more than 70% use its 4G service, which is also a record high among Viettel’s overseas markets around the world.

Before Mytel was officially launched in Myanmar on June 9, 2018, Viettel Global had set a target of 2-3 million subscribers in 2018. But after one month of its operation, Mytel revised the target to 4 million and would start getting a revenue by the end of 2019.

Director-General of Mytel Nguyen Thanh Nam said, “After one month of its operation, Mytel signed various contracts on provision of telecommunication services with local firms worth US$ 2.4 million, and had 30,000 mobile subscribers as businesses. The company has planned to attract some 300,000 businesses to its mobile services.

Mytel also collaborates with several large telecommunication companies, particularly Skynet, the largest television service provider with more than 400 agents and 130,000 retail sellers, to promote its trademark and sell its services across the country.

Myanmar is Viettel’s overseas largest market with its population of some 53 million and highest economic growth rate (around 7%).

However, Myanmar is a highly competitive market with 90% of the population using telecommunication services and low telecommunication costs (the mobile calling rate is only 2 cents per minute).

Moreover, Mytel has to compete with other world-leading telecoms that have been already doing business in the market, such as Telenor (Norway) – 13th largest company in the world, and Ooredoo (Qatar) – a leading mobile service provider in the Middle East.
