Viettel Group’s Chairman and General Director Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang directs the emergency response operations in Thai Nguyen province.

The group has also been implementing multiple customer support policies amidst severe flooding caused by Typhoon Matmo, the 11th storm hitting Vietnam this year.

Viettel promptly activated its highest-level emergency response plan at night of October 8. Over 300 staff members from neighboring provinces, including elite forces from its member corporations, were deployed to Thai Nguyen province overnight.

Viettel prepared 50 boats to transport fuel to its isolated BTSs and used dozens of drones for reconnaissance and delivery of equipment and fuel to flood- and landslide-affected areas inaccessible by road.

In addition, it deployed satellite phones, walkie-talkies, mobile broadcasting vehicles, 100 generators, and 1,000 batteries to ensure communication connectivity for local residents and support relief efforts.

Despite heavy rains and rising floodwaters, Viettel’s technical teams have held on to key hotspots to restore power, replace batteries, and activate backup broadcasting. Small boats, drones, and specialized vehicles have worked in close coordination to reach deeply flooded stations despite slippery terrain and landslides.

Alongside infrastructure restoration, Viettel has promptly carried out customer support measures in affected areas. The group credited VND 20,000 each to 48,000 mobile subscribers in Thai Nguyen province impacted by the floods. Additionally, it offered a 50% data bonus for ST15K and 5G30 packages for 79,000 subscribers and a 50% top-up bonus (20% for calls, 30% for data) for 98,000 subscribers, ensuring customers could stay connected and informed in emergency situations.

Viettel Post also mobilized resources to transport essential goods and supplies to severely affected areas. With coordinated efforts in manpower, specialized equipment, technological solutions, and customer support policies, Viettel has managed to contain the impact of network disruptions and minimize communication outages.

As heavy rains and floods are forecast to continue for several days, Viettel has reaffirmed its commitment to reinforcing personnel and equipment, and to closely cooperating with local authorities to ensure the “information lifeline” remains unbroken, serving people in this critical situation.
