Conference held to review activities of Fund for Vietnam’s sea and islands
PANO - On June 5, the Steering Committee of the Fund for Vietnam’s sea and islands held a conference to review its task implementation in the 2018-2025 period. The event was chaired by General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Head of the Steering Committee.
Reporting at the event, Major General Be Hai Trieu, Director of the Mass Mobilization Department under the General Department of Political Affairs and Deputy Head of the fund’s Standing Organ, noted that from 2018 to 2025, the fund operated effectively and in strict compliance with regulations. Meanwhile, member units and agencies of the Steering Committee actively promoted dissemination to raise public and overseas Vietnamese awareness of maritime sovereignty. Currently, the fund’s website has attracted 45 press and media agencies seeking information to produce dissemination programs.

In addition, numerous effective programs were organized, such as “Vietnam People’s Navy serves as a fulcrum for fishermen to reach out to the sea” and “Coast Guard accompanies fishermen,” along with distributing national flags and life jackets, rescuing fishermen, and organizing visits to Truong Sa special zone and DK1 platforms, among others.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong commended these achievements and urged relevant units to enhance coordination in promoting and donating for the fund. Specifically, he urged the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to host an annual fundraising campaign, while the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, and Mass Mobilization should be tasked with directing dissemination efforts.

Moreover, the Office of the Government of Vietnam, ministries, localities, and press agencies were urged to step up dissemination work and expand the fund’s reach. Localities should also coordinate with military units to boost maritime economic development, together with building the whole-people defense posture, to name but a few.
