On February 25, construction workers discovered a huge bomb lying at a depth of nearly two meters while constructing an anti-erosion embankment at the Dien Bien Province Ethnic Boarding High School in Tan Thanh Ward, Dien Bien Phu city.
Upon receiving the news, the Dien Bien Phu city Military Command dispatched professional personnel to the site to inspect it. They identified a 350kg bomb coded MK148, which was dropped by French colonialists on the Dien Bien Phu battlefield in the 1950s.
Previously, during the garden renovation, a local discovered two UXO items, including a 105mm artillery shell and a 120mm mortar shell. The Dien Bien Phu City Military Command retrieved these UXO items and transported them to a safer location for detonation.
The process of detonating bombs and other UXO followed correct procedures and ensured absolute safety.
