During the 2025-2026 dry season, Team K53 operated in three southern Lao provinces and Cambodia’s Ratanakiri province. Overcoming severe weather conditions, treacherous terrain, and austere living conditions, the team members closely engaged with local communities, tracking every piece of information and war trace to search for and repatriate remains of fallen soldiers.

Accordingly, the team processed 600 reports regarding martyrs’ graves and conducted the search across 19 districts in three southern Lao provinces and six districts in Ratanakiri. After excavating approximately 2,200 cubic meters of soil and rock, the team successfully collected 16 sets of remains, including six in Ratanakiri, three in Sekong, one in Champasak, and six in Attapeu.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Quang Ngai provincial Steering Committee Y Ngoc emphasized that searching for, collecting, and identifying martyrs’ remains is a crucially important political task. She noted it reflects the sacred responsibility and moral duty of the entire Party, military, and people toward those who sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom, and noble international duties.

She acknowledged and commended the efforts and achievements of Team K53’s personnel, expressing deep gratitude to authorities, armed forces, and people of the two neighboring countries for the support.

At the event, the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee awarded merit certificates to eight collectives and 14 individuals for their outstanding performance in directing, coordinating, and executing the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who gave their lives while carrying out international missions in Laos and Cambodia.

Collectives and individuals from the special working committees of the three southern Lao provinces and Ratanakiri province’s specialized committee were also honored.
