Implementing the directions of the National Steering Committee and the Defense Ministry, the Military Region 1’s Steering Committee and province-level steering committees in the military region have recently focused on launching the campaign with practical guidelines and measures. They have proactively mapped out and synchronously executed a system of regulations, plans, and action programs.
The military region has established a survey team to coordinate with provincial steering committees to review the current status of all 419 martyrs’ cemeteries in the area, which house a total of 46,805 graves. Among them, 11,268 graves have full information, 29,438 have partial information, and 6,096 lack information. Authorities have collected samples from 1,361 graves, leaving 4,735 graves requiring sampling for DNA testing.
At the conference, after hearing reports on the campaign’s initial results, delegates focused on discussing and clarifying difficulties and obstacles in the search and collection of martyrs’ remains, before agreeing on key directions and tasks for the coming time.
From now until July 27, 2027, Military Region 1 is determined to highly concentrate on fulfilling the campaign’s goals and targets. The focus is on searching for and collecting 100 martyrs’ remains in the area (striving to collect 60 remains in 2026 alone). It also aims to complete the sampling, hand-over, and information digitization of 100% of unidentified martyrs’ graves to serve DNA testing for identification.
Concluding the conference, Major General Duong Van Quang requested the standing bodies of steering committees at all levels, along with agencies, units, and localities, to proactively advise and organize the implementation of the campaign in a drastical and synchronous manner, closely following the characteristics of each area. He emphasized the need to step up information dissemination to encourage people to provide information about martyrs and their graves. Meanwhile, the sampling, hand-over, and digitization of sample information must be conducted properly, with absolute safety, and without errors.
Affirming that this is an exceptionally important political task reflecting the principle of “When drinking water, remember its source” and profound gratitude to the heroic martyrs, the Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 1 stressed that during the implementation process responsibilities must be clearly assigned to each level and force, linking results to the leaders’ responsibilities. Units must regularly inspect, urge, and promptly resolve difficulties to excellently accomplish the set goals.
