Sixty years ago, the U.S. imperialists launched air and naval operations to attack the North Vietnam, aiming to prevent support from the North to the South. In response, the Vietnam People's Navy and the North’s military troops and people took courageous actions, successfully repelling the USS Maddox and shooting down eight aircraft while damaging many others. The victories on August 2 and 5, 1964, exemplified the spiritual strength of the entire nation and the determined fighting spirit of the Navy and the North’s military troops and people. In these battles, many officers, soldiers, and civilians bravely fell or were wounded, including 78 naval officers and soldiers.
