Conference highlights the fight for northern border protection
PANO - The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam Association of Historical Science (VAHS) co-held a national conference in Hanoi on February 15 to recall the fight to protect the Fatherland’s northern border 40 years ago (1979-2019).
VSS President Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan held that that was a chance to review the historical event in an honest and objective manner, with the view of praising the patriotism and national pride as well as promoting solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and other nations.
What is more, the conference also aimed to refute any wrongful, distorted, and slanderous arguments of reactionary and hostile forces, who try to use the event to do harm to the Party and State, and undermine the Vietnam-China friendship relations, he said.
Sixty reports submitted to the conference affirmed the historical truth and the legitimate right of Vietnam and the justice of the Vietnamese armed forces and people in the fight to protect the Fatherland’s northern border.
Many reports provided theoretical and practical foundations, as well as lessons learnt from the war, contributing to educating today’s Vietnamese generation about the unity and determination necessary to defend and build the country in the context that situations in the region and world become unpredictable and increasingly complex.
At the conference, participants also discussed the background of the event, and expressed gratitude towards soldiers and those who had fought and sacrificed themselves for the protection of the nation’s border land.
The conference also contributed to confirming the Party and State’s consistent foreign policy of treasuring its relations with China in the spirit of “setting aside the past and looking forwards to the future,” as well as Vietnam’s efforts to promote a friendly, cooperative, equal, and win-win Vietnam-China relationship.
