He distinguishes himself from others via a number of Youth Union activities and movements with the aim of bringing a useful playground and start-up opportunities for Youth Union members and youths.

Young role model

Teo, a Pa Co ethnic minority, was born and grew up in mountainous and border area of A Ngo. Despite hard living conditions, he tried his best to graduate from high school.

He was enlisted in Division 968 under Military Region 4 in February 2011. In August 2012, he was discharged and wished to continue his study since he dreamt of being a teacher. He saved money in three years to afford his further study. From 2014 to 2017, he studied at Quang Tri College of Pedagogy. He got married one year later and decided to work at home to support his wife’s study at Quang Tri Technical College. After his wife got a job at A Vao Kindergarten in A Vao commune, Dakrong district, Teo started studying at Hue University of Education.

During his student life, he always achieved high academic results and was enthusiastically engaged in students’ activities and movements. Knowing that Lao students facing difficulties in study due to language barrier, Teo asked the school for a classroom to teach them Vietnamese for free. In three years, his class was off only when he visited home or partook in school-launched activities. That was the reason why he has a lot of friends in Laos.

To afford their study, Teo and his wife got a loan from Vietnam Bank for Social Policies. Up to date, they still have to pay the bank VND 5 million a month. Thus it was surprising when he donated his land for the Border Post of La Hay International Gate under the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command to build a checkpoint for border protection and COVID-19 prevention and control. He explained that he just wished to set an example by joining hands with the border guard force to safeguard the border and protect local people’s life.

Colonel Nguyen Xuan Linh, Political Commissar of the Border Post of La Lay International Gate, recalled that “while performing dual missions in border areas, we have received great support from local people, including Ho Van Teo and Ho Van Tap who have donated land for a checkpoint.” The checkpoint now becomes a working place of the post and the presence of border guards here helps locals feel secure and bad people fear.

Imprints in Youth Union work

Working at A Ngo Primary and Secondary School, Teo has actively taken part in local Youth Union work. In 2021, he was elected as Vice Secretary of A Ngo commune Youth Union Organization. He has become the secretary in the 2022-2027 tenure.

Though busy with work, Teo still opens a class for students with bad study results.

Under his leadership, A Ngo commune Youth Union Organization and its counterpart from the Border Post of La Lay International Gate have carried out a number of meaningful activities, such as “Loaf of bread in border areas,” “Hairdressers of border post,” and “Start-up with female goats,” helping locals escape from poverty, contributing to local socio-economic development.

In addition, the two Youth Union organizations have also disseminated information to get more people involved in the protection of national border sovereignty and security.

With practical and effective deeds, Secretary Ho Van Teo has made the Youth Union work in A Ngo commune typical.
