DK1/11 platform saves fisherman in distress at sea
PANO – On March 29, DK1/11 platform (DK1 Battalion, Naval Region 2) received a signal requesting urgent medical assistance from fishing trawler BD97863 TS, located about two nautical miles to the south-southeast of the platform.
The trawler, captained by To Van Duong, born in 1969 from Hoai Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai province, reported that a crew-member had been injured.

Upon receiving the information, DK1/11 platform promptly reported to higher levels, while making necessary preparations and guiding the trawler to approach the docking platform for medical examination and emergency treatment.
At 10:40 on the same day, the trawler safely docked at the platform. The platform’s medical team promptly examined the patient, who was identified as fisherman La Van Tru, born in 1966 in Hoai Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai province. The patient showed symptoms of facial drooping, loss of speech, inability to open his eyes, and weakness in the limbs.

The medical team then lifted the patient onto the platform for initial emergency care. Following consultation, the platform’s medical team made a preliminary diagnosis indicating signs of a stroke. Due to the platform’s limited medical equipment and facilities, the unit instructed the captain to promptly transport the patient to the Truong Sa (Spratly) Island Infirmary for further monitoring and specialized treatment.
