Troops help people overcome disaster consequences
PANO - Prolonged heavy rains on April 8 and 9 wreaked havoc in the Northern provinces of Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, and Ha Giang.
The rains ripped off roofs of 220 houses, schools and medical clinics, and damaged more than 1,000 hectares of rice paddy fields and other crops.

According to the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, these localities and military units mobilized over 500 people and troops to to help affected local people overcome the damage caused by the rains.
In addition, several blazes broke out in Ho Chi Minh City, and Vinh Long, Dong Thap, and Ca Mau provinces, burning down 800sq.m of warehouse and other people’s personal property.
Dozens of troops and militiamen and nine fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fires on time.
