Thousands of troops help people cope with Typhoon Usagi
PANO – More than 7,000 soldiers from military units supported local people in responding to typhoon Usagi and overcoming its consequences, the ninth storm having hit Vietnam so far this year.
Accordingly, the force of Military Region 5 evacuated 277 households with 696 people in dangerous areas to safer ones.
Military Region 7 supported nearly 16,000 local residents and helped them consolidate over 400 houses.

Meanwhile, Military Region 9 assisted nearly 14,000 people in moving to safe places.
In the waters of Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) Island of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, the Vietnam People’s Navy informed vessels of the storm’s developments and directed tens of trawlers to proactively take refuge.
The Vietnam Border Guard Command sent missions to call for locals in aquatic farms at sea to return home, reinforce their houses, dock their boats in safe shelters, and evacuate 2,500 people from risky areas.
