Military units praised for well organizing gratitude activities
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem highly valued activeness and all-out effort of military agencies and units in organizing a series of meaningful and practical gratitude activities to mark the Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day.
During a conference held by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on June 12 to review the outcomes of implementing the MND’s Plan No. 9799 on the organization of such above activities, Gen. Le Chiem, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Head of the Organizing Panel for the organization of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Wounded Soldiers' and Martyrs' Day (July 27), highlighted the involved units’ popularization and education on the day, provision of free health checkups and medicines for national contributors, better care for national contributors’ material and spiritual lives and more repatriation of martyrs’ remains.

The conference also heard achievements on the work gained by military agencies and units over the past time. Accordingly, they have obtained initial good results in the emulation movement “When drinking water, remember its source and gratitude activities”, which was launched since May 18 this year.
Moreover, nearly 1,700 gratitude, comradeship, “VND100”, compassion houses have been built for the needy while some 15,000 national contributors and poor people, especially those in mountainous, remote areas and former revolutionary bases, have been given free health checkups and medicines.
Furthermore, relevant units have called for more donations of war keepsakes and fallen soldiers’ belongings during the national resistance wars against French and American invaders; well carried out policies for martyrs and invalids; and closely worked with veterans and organizations to collect more information related to fallen soldiers’ remains.
Commending the involved agencies and units for their recent outcomes, Gen. Chiem urged them to continue embracing Plan No. 9799, promoting popularization on the day and gratitude activities. He also asked the MND’s relevant units to closely coordinate with each other to organize meetings with outstanding revolution contributors and fallen soldiers’ relatives who are now working in the military and to host the coming national conference in honor of revolution contributors.
