On July 31, in the commune, three people were still missing and many houses were at risk of collapsing.

Given the complicated developments of natural disasters in Dien Bien province, the Military Region 2 Command directed the Dien Bien provincial Military Command and Division 355 to send 400 officers and soldiers to work with local border guards, police and militia forces to support locals to surmount the aftermath of the floods and landslides, and search for missing victims.

Reportedly, on July 31, the provincial Military Command and other forces already built three temporary houses in Huoi Ke and Linh villages of Muong Pon commune for nine families whose houses were swept away or at risk of collapsing. Meanwhile, Regiment 82 of Division 355 deployed troops to move five households in Linh village and their properties to safe places and stayed ready on further request.

Other military agencies and units in Dien Bien province are maintaining rescue duties. They closely follow situational developments to take timely actions if requested.

Directing the rescue work in Muong Pon commune on July 31, Mua A Son, Permanent Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, asked the local party committee and authorities to mobilize military, border guard and public forces for the work and evacuate locals and their assets from Muong Pon, Linh and Tin Toc villages to safer sites, repair National Highway 12’s section through Muong Pon commune and visit families of the deceased and missing as well as rescue forces.
