Literacy class opened for border women in Thanh Hoa
PANO - On September 17, Tam Chung Border Post under the Thanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with the Women's Union of Tam Chung commune, launched a literacy class for women in On village.
Located near the Vietnam - Laos border, On village is characterized by rugged terrain, poor transportation, and long distance from the commune center. It is home to 117 H’mong ethnic households, many of whom still face hard living conditions. In particular, many local women remain illiterate or have relapsed into illiteracy, posing numerous challenges in daily life, child-rearing, and economic development.
Acknowledging the situation, Tam Chung Border Post joined hands with the local Women’s Union chapter to open this class for 30 women in the village.
According to the plan, the class will run for three months, from September to December, on weekday evenings. Its primary goal is to help participants to achieve basic literacy and do simple calculations.
