Recently, the Border Post of Hoa Lu International Border Gate under the Binh Phuoc provincial Border Guard Command, in collaboration with Loc Ho Primary and Secondary School in Loc Hoa commune of Loc Ninh district, has organized the “Lessons on border” model, as part of the effort to consolidate people’s heart posture.

During the class time, participating students directly observe and touch the sacred border markers and learn about the locations of border markers in the area. They are also equipped with regulations and agreements on the border and join border troops to perform the tasks of protecting sovereignty and border security.

Nguyen Huu Sang, a ninth grader, said that he has attended the class many times. Through lessons, participating students have deeper understanding about sovereignty of the sacred border of the Fatherland and the silent sacrifices of the border guard force. “Therefore, we told ourselves to actively study to become useful citizens, making small contribution to building a prosperous and beautiful border region and protecting the sovereignty and security of the national border,” Sang said.

The “Lessons on border” is one of the typical models in building a strong all-people border defense posture of the Binh Phuoc provincial Border Guard Command and has been carried out since 2017. According to the program, each border post coordinates with local party committees, authorities and schools to organize three to four lessons per quarter with border guard officers as teachers. The “Lessons on border” model has contributed to shaping students’ awareness of protecting sovereignty and border security.

Binh Phuoc has a more than 250km shared borderline with Cambodia, which is convenient for trading activities and socio-economic development. However, since there are many trails through the borderline enabling suspects to conduct illegal activities, the locality faces many potential risks of instability in political security and social order and safety, affecting the protection of national sovereignty and border security. Bad people also take advantage of ethnic minority people’s low education level and living standards to carry out illegal acts, posing challenges to the locality.

According to Political Commissar of the Binh Phuoc provincial Border Guard Command Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Phuong, to contribute to building a borderline of peace and friendship and maintaining security and order, the province’s border guard has worked closely with the provincial Party Committee and authorities to strictly and effectively implement the Party's resolutions and directives related to the tasks.

Agencies and units under the provincial Border Guard Command have developed detailed plans and programs, focusing on improving the quality of law dissemination and building grassroots political systems. They have actively participated in socio-economic development and hunger eradication and poverty reduction activities.

In addition, the unit has paid attention to reviewing and streamlining the organization and personnel, selecting enthusiastic and experienced staff to work in complicated areas, and equipping its troops with skills and knowledge related to law, ethnicity, and religion. The provincial Border Guard has regularly sent five officers to border communes. Ninety cadres and party members of the unit are in 90 party organizations of villages, while 316 others are assigned to helping 1,461 households in need.

Having returned from a field trip, Lieutenant Colonel Lam Keo Van Xuan, a Khmer ethnic person and an officer of the provincial Border Guard Command, said, “As a local, I deeply understand the customs, culture, and language of the people as well as local situation. Thanks to that, I have made proper, accurate and timely recommendation to the unit’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command and local authorities to well bring into play the role of village patriarchs and heads and influential people among the ethnic minorities, disseminate and mobilize locals to effectively implement the Party’s resolutions and the State's laws and actively join the military to firmly defend the sovereignty and border security and build a borderline of peace, friendship, development.”

Since the beginning of 2022, Binh Phuoc’s Border Guard Command has organized 1,419 meetings to disseminate law to more than 35,400 people; provided livelihood support and production capital, worth more than VND 270 million in total, to locals; donated more than 4.5 tons of rice from the “Rice jar of sentiment” movement to those in need; mobilized troops to contribute 5,000 working days to help local residents harvest 150ha of crops. Through those specific activities, the unit has helped border communes strengthen 36 Party organizations, 15 departments and organizations, and 24 political organizations and businesses. More than 14,400 households have voluntarily registered to participate in the “All people join in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation” movements.

Chairman of the Binh Phuoc provincial People's Committee Tran Tue Hien recalled that many major political and diplomatic events of the country and the military took place in border areas in Binh Phuoc in 2022. He affirmed the close relationship between local people and troops and the local Party committees and authorities, adding that it has contributed to the successful organization of events and enriching the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia. Those achievements have remarkably come from the efforts of the province’s border guard and armed forces.
