Helicopter mobilized to Phu Quy Island for search and rescue mission
PANO - According to the Ministry of National Defense (MND), on March 9, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang directed the Air Defense - Air Force Service (ADAF) to send a helicopter to find missing fishermen in Phu Quy Island area.
At 15:30 on March 8, about 17 nautical miles off North-Northwest of Phu Quy Island (Binh Thuan province), barge LA-05923 of Duc Phu Thinh Petroleum Production and Service Company in Long An province, with four crew-members, sank due to heavy waves.

At the same time, Coast Guard Region 3 of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command sent Ship 6007 to the scene for the search and rescue mission. At 10:00 on March 9, trawler BTh-85372TS found the two distressed fishermen and handed over them to the coast guard ship. Two other fishermen were missing.
At 15:19 on March 9, the MND directed the ADAF to send Helicopter Mi-171 of Regiment 917, Air Defense Division 370, departing from Can Tho city, to implement the search and rescue mission.
Meanwhile, the Search and Rescue Department of the General Staff of Vietnam People’s Army was requested to grasp the situation and report to defense leaders. The Military Medical Department was asked to work with the local authorities and Military Hospital 175 to make preparation for treatment.
