The tribute paying was part of the activities to mark the 79th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944 - 2023) and the 34th anniversary of the whole people’s defense festive day (December 22, 1989 – 2023).

The mission offered incense in remembrance of late Generals Vo Nguyen Giap, Le Duc Anh, Hoang Van Thai, Le Trong Tan, Van Tien Dung, Doan Khue, Phung Quang Thanh, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Khac Nghien. Delegates also paid tribute to Lieutenant General Nguyen Hai Bang, late President of National Defense Academy. 

During the visits to late Party, State, and military leaders’ families, General Cuong and members of the delegations expressed their gratitude to the late leaders for their contributions to the Party’s revolutionary, military building cause, and defense consolidation; inquired after the late generals’ relatives and hoped that they would uphold their families’ tradition and make contribution to building prosperous and civilized hometown and country.

The same day, the Chief of the General Staff visited and presented gifts to former Defense Ministers General Pham Van Tra and General Ngo Xuan Lich; General Do Ba Ty, former Chief of the General Staff, former Deputy Defense Minister, and former Deputy Chairman of the General Assembly; Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy, former Deputy Chairman of the General Assembly, former President of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association.

Gen. Cuong inquired after the former leaders and wished them good health hoped that they would continue to make further contribution to the defense consolidation, military building, and national protection. 

Also on December 18, Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San led a delegation to visit and extend wishes to former Defense Minister General Pham Van Tra; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc, former Deputy Defense Minister and former President of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association; Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, former Deputy Defense Minister and President of the Vietnamese War Veterans’ Association.

The defense leader took the occasion to brief the former leaders on the military’s outstanding results in 2023 and wished them to stay healthy and make more valuable contribution to military building, defense consolidation, and national defense.
