The defense leader handed over funds to build six houses of gratitude, 10 houses of great solidary, and 100 gift packages.

Addressing the event, Gen. Cuong emphasized that the whole military has widely, practically and effectively carried out gratitude activities nationwide. Last year, military units visited and presented gifts valued at VND 1.980 trillion to policy beneficiaries, eliminated 18,391 dilapidated and temporary houses, built 992 houses of gratitude, and taken care of 595 heroic Vietnamese mothers. In addition, thousands of officers, soldiers, self-defense and militia personnel promptly helped local residents in disaster response and relief.

Especially, in the Quang Trung Campaign, over 125,000 troops engaged in building 619 new houses and repairing 6,878 other houses for flood-hit victims in Central provinces.

This year, units in the entire military are actively implementing the 500-day campaign of searching for, gathering and identifying remains of martyrs and striving to complete the building of 600 new houses and the repair of 388 houses for children of victims exposed to toxic chemicals by July 25 to celebrate the 65 anniversary of the Day for the Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Vietnam.

Stressing that these activities demonstrate the high determination and sense of responsibility of the Party, State, military to the people, helping strengthen troops-people bonds and beautify the traditions and good qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in the new situation, Gen. Cuong asked local Party committee, authorities, and socio-political organizations to continue the gratitude-paying and for the poor movements in the time to come.

According to a local official, Dong Thap province has some 194,000 national contributors, 58,885 martyrs, 8,223 heroic Vietnamese mothers, over 18,000 wounded soldiers, and 2,968 sick soldiers. There remain 6,698 poor households and 13,423 near-poor households in the province. Therefore, the province targets to have no poor households by 2030.
