With love and responsibility, border guard units have effectively implemented various models and programs to support locals. They include “Paving the way to schools for students - Adopted children of border posts,” “Border spring warms up people’s hearts,” “Border guards join hands in new-style rural area building,” “Border guards join hands for the poor, leaving no one behind,” “Accompanying border women,” “Light up border areas,” “March in border areas,” “Green Sunday,” among others.
The program “Saturday in villages” initiated by the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command is among the typical ones. Every Saturday, troops from border units under the command visit each village, each house to conduct significant deeds that have been highly applauded and acknowledged by local party committees and authorities and benefited many disadvantaged families.

Recently, orphans Cao Xuan Le, aged 14, and Cao Thi Nhi, aged 11, in Mo O O O hamlet, Thuong Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province received house-building support from Ca Xeng Border Post. Other programs such as free health check-ups and health counselling, gift presentation, national flag-presentation, and public facilities handover in Quang Binh province have also shown their effectiveness.
Meanwhile, the Border Post of Long Sap International Border Gate under the Son La provincial Border Guard Command has well carried out the model in which assistance in studying and vocational training is given to needy ethnic students in Long Sap and Chieng Khua communes, Moc Chau district until they graduate from schools, even universities.
For seven years now, troops from the Border Post of La Lay International Border Gate under the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command, regardless of good or bad weather conditions and distances, have provided poor students in A Ngo and A Bung communes, Dakrong district with bread for breakfast once or twice a week.
Other practical models are “Kitchen of compassion” by the Border Post of Le Thanh International Border Gate under the Gia Lai provincial Border Guard Command, benefiting 14-16 students with hard living conditions; “Free swimming class” by the Ha Tinh and Nghe An provincial Border Guard Commands; and “One day as a soldier,” “Border classes.”
These meaningful models, with funds raised among border troops, local authorities, enterprises, benefactors, have helped change border villages positively, brought study opportunities for local students. They will be multiplied to benefit more people in need in the time to come.
