The Defense Minister offered flowers and incense to former Party General Secretary, former Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) Senior Lieutenant General Le Kha Phieu; former Politburo member, former President, former Defense Minister General Le Duc Anh; former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, former Defense Minister General Vo Nguyen Giap; former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the State Council, former Chief of the GDP General Chu Huy Man; former Politburo members and former Defense Ministers Generals Van Tien Dung, Doan Khue and Phung Quang Thanh; former Chiefs of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Ministers Generals Hoang Van Thai and Le Trong Tan. He expressed deep gratitude to the former leaders for their great contribution to the Party and the nation’s revolutionary cause and military building.

On the occasion, Gen. Giang inquired after the late leaders’ families and wished that they would stay healthy and continue to promote their families’ traditions and make contribution to the development of the nation and military.
The same day, Gen. Giang visited former member of the Party Central Committee and former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy, during which he briefed the former leader on the military’s outstanding achievements in military and defense in 2023 and upcoming activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the VPA and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. He also wished Lt. Gen. Dang Quan Thuy health and happiness and hoped that the former leader would contribute to building a strong VPA capable of fulfilling all missions assigned by the Party, State, and people.

The same day, the GDP’s Chief General Luong Cuong led a delegation to visit and present gifts to former chiefs of the GDP General Ngo Xuan Lich and Senior Lieutenant General Pham Thanh Ngan.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the GDP’s leaders, Gen. Cuong wished Gen. Lich who is also former Defense Minister, and Gen. Ngan health and further contribution to the Party’s revolutionary cause and the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite, and gradually-modernized military.

The GDP's chief took the occasion to brief the former leaders of the general department on the military’s implementation of Party and political work and gratitude activities over the past time. He said that troops in the whole military are determined to successfully fulfill political missions, contributing to building a strong military and safeguarding the socialism.
During the meetings, Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich and Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Thanh Ngan highly appreciated the military’s outcomes of party and political work and gratitude activities over the past time. They hoped that the GDP will continue to effectively carry out its advisory role to higher levels; direct the whole military to successfully carry out the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th Military Party Congress, and resolutions and directives of the Party, Central Military Commission, and GDP; well conduct ideological and political education to enhance troops’ determination and readiness to undertake and fulfill assigned missions.
