Vietnamese peacekeeping force holds Party Congress for 2020-2025 term
PANO - The Party Committee of the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) held the second Party Congress on May 27 in the presence of Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.
At the event, delegates agreed that the VNDPKO’s Party Committee has always had a high sense of responsibility and increased its working capabilities over the 2015-2020 term, contributing to comprehensively developing the Vietnamese peacekeeping force and achieving impressive outcomes in the UN peacekeeping operations.
Reportedly, Vietnamese peacekeeping officers and medical personnel undertaking tasks at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and at the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) have demonstrated their excellent professional expertise and skills, and received good commendations from the United Nations.
For the next period, the unit’s Party Committee plans to develop its training center to be a training establishment for regular peacekeeping training in both regional and international arenas, build professional peacekeepers, and fulfill preparations for the successful deployment of a combined engineering company ahead of the fourth quarter of 2023. In addition, they will do research to provide timely advice for higher levels to expand the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in the time to come.
Speaking at the congress, General Vinh praised the achievements of VNDPKO over the last tenure, stressing its task performance has contributed to improving the prestige of the Vietnamese armed forces in particular and the image of Vietnamese people and country in the international arena.
General Vinh asked the department to continue to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on UN peacekeeping operations, exchange experience with international organizations and foreign countries, provide timely advice for the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on building the Vietnamese peacekeeping force.
