Vietnamese ‘blue-beret’ engineers hone skills
PANO - Members of the Engineering Company Rotation 2 to take on U.N. peacekeeping missions honed skills in a training session held on February 17 by the Engineering Corps under the direction of the corps’ commander Major General Tran Trung Hoa.

During the session, engineers practiced building of field airport and helipads; demining; well drilling, water filtering, water tank building to provide fresh water for the U.N peacekeeping mission’s staff and local people; sending personnel and vehicles for rescue missions, among others.
They also rehearsed simulated scenarios to deal with situations related to armed attacks, petrol bombs and treatment for injured troops during mine clearance.

Earlier, the participants learned basic English communication skills and some technical terms in engineering to help them complete their duties at the U.N. mission.
Addressing the event, Major General Tran Trung Hoa hailed the Engineering Company Rotation 2’s efforts and outcomes, especially in the training session, and the smooth and effective coordination among its members.
He asked the unit to continue completing all preparations for the future duties. Based on the results of the training session, they should enhance pre-deployment training, promote solidarity, heighten resolve to complete all assignments.

The Engineering Company Rotation 2 will replace the Rotation 1 undertaking missions now in Abyei and about to fulfill their assigned duties there.
