Over the past time, law enforcement forces at sea, together with local authorities, have promoted information dissemination on IUU fishing prevention regulations, strengthened examination and strictly controlled fishing boats’ activities, contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty at sea, as well as minimizing the number of fishing boats engaging in IUU fishing.
Although the number of fishing vessels committing illegal fishing in foreign waters has reduced compared to that last year, the issue has remained complicated.

In detail, since the beginning of this year, law enforcement forces in the Southwestern waters have detained 128 fishing vessels and 346 crew-members for illegal fishing in foreign waters.
Additionally, on-duty forces at sea have encountered many difficulties and challenges in coordinating with local authorities to prevent and handle fishing boats’ violations.
Knowing the situation, the delegation will send appropriate proposals to the Ministry of National Defense and the government to implement measures for IUU fishing prevention in a timely manner, joining hands with the nation to have the European Commission (EC) remove its yellow card warning against Vietnam.
