The meeting aimed to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail and the Foundation Day of the Truong Son Army Corps (May 19, 1959-2022).

At the working session, Senior Colonel Nguyen Huu Ngoc, Commander of Army Corps 12 shared that Army Corps 12 is the successor of Corps 559 – Truong Son soldiers.

During the 16-year struggle against the U.S imperialists, Truong Son soldiers, together with volunteer youths and the front-line conscripted laborers, overcame numerous difficulties and hardships to build the legendary Truong Son Trail, contributing to liberating the South and unifying the nation.

When peace was restored, Truong Son soldiers were responsible for economic missions. Since 1989, Army Corps 12 has been a State-owned enterprise, implementing economic-defense missions under the business name of Truong Son Construction Corporation.

Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the army corps fulfilled its assigned plans, meeting all targets set by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.

Notably, Army Corps 12 won bids for hundreds of major projects, including the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, the Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, the project to renovate Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, and more.

For the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association part, its Chairman Major General Vo So said that established in 2011, the association currently has 95 affiliates with more than 350,000 members across the country.

Over the past years, the association has conducted practical activities, contributing to the building of new-style rural areas, poverty alleviation and hunger eradication in many localities.

Addressing the working session, Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan expressed her gratitude to generations of Truong Son soldiers for their great contribution to the cause of national construction and defense.

Applauding the great efforts of the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association over the past time, she hoped that the association would uphold its tradition and raise troops’ determination to accomplish all set targets in the coming time, becoming a shining example for young generations.

Regarding Army Corps 12, the Vice State President praised the good results of the unit’s task performance over the past time. She required the unit to actively draw up concrete plans to effectively implement upcoming projects.

Meanwhile, the unit should promote training, make plans and take measures for natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue missions, as well as continue coordinating with the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association to carry out social activities.

Earlier, Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan offered incense at Uncle Ho’s Memorial House, inquired after and presented gifts to the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail Traditional Association, and planted trees on the campus of Army Corps 12.
