The positive results of these activities were reviewed at a conference held by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on August 17 under the chair of Senior Lieutenant-General Le Chiem, Deputy-Minister of National Defense and head of the MND’s organizing panel of anniversary celebrations of this special day.
Almost all military agencies and units seriously realized the MND’s plan with diverse and practical activities. They have actively and closely teamed up with local party committees, authorities, organizations and people to mobilize all sources for the gratitude activities.
Senior Lieutenant-General Le Chiem (L) presenting certificates to outstanding groups
So far, the whole army has built nearly 1,500 gratitude houses, three times more than its set targets; more than 1,000 comradeships, “100VND” houses; and taken care of over 1,900 Vietnamese heroic mothers.
Besides, military units held meetings with people who rendered good services for the nation, wounded and sick soldiers and martyrs’ families, gave over VND 19 billion in support to needy people and gathered 1,833 sets of remains of martyrs.
With a socio-political significance, such activities have left deep impressions on both troops and people.
In his speech, Gen. Chiem hailed all involved agencies and units and spoke highly of their outcomes. He asked them to continue fully implementing policies for people who made contributions to the nation, troops’ families and gratitude movements. He also urged them to promote education on the day and great contributions of sick, wounded and fallen soldiers and other revolutionary contributors as well as pay due attention to improve the material and spiritual lives of these people, especially those in mountainous and remote areas and in revolutionary bases.
Military agencies and units were also requested to bolster the search and repatriation of remains of martyrs who died during the war in Vietnam and while doing international service.
On this occasion, the MND presented merit certificates to 154 groups and 161 individuals, including the People’s Army Newspaper and its two staffers. The Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army awarded merit certificates to one group and 13 individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement titled “When drinking water, remember its source” and “Gratitude”.
