The mission was joined by Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Deputy-Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and representatives from several army corps, general departments under the MND.

Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong extended Tet greetings to troops and people on Truong Sa Island

On Truong Sa Island, the mission was briefed on the stationed troops’ outcomes of training, combat readiness, and building of strong and healthy Party cells and a comprehensively strong unit as well as of natural disaster control and preparations for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year Festival) for troops and islanders.

On behalf of the CMC and MND, Gen. Cuong applauded Truong Sa Island’s troops and people for their task accomplishments over the years, and their efforts in overcoming consequences of storm Tembin, the 16th storm hitting Vietnam last year.

Gen. Cuong informed them of situations in the country and the world with a focus on the country’s socio-economic development, the Party’s and State’s success in external affairs, efforts in corruption prevention and control and social welfare guarantee.

He also affirmed that the aforementioned good results have helped strengthen the people’s trust in the Party’s leadership and the State’s management.

Regarding the whole army’s last year’s military-defense task performance and this year’s orientations, Gen. Cuong emphasized that the Party and State highly valued the army’s efforts in comprehensively and resolutely carrying out military-defense missions and their task performance.

According to Gen. Cuong, the good outcomes resulted from the important contributions of naval troops, including those stationed on Truong Sa Island and Truong Sa islanders themselves.

Analyzing possibility of developments in the country and the world, Gen. Cuong hoped that Truong Sa Island district’ troops and people would continue to exert all efforts to fulfill all assigned missions, concentrating on heightening revolutionary vigilance, strengthening solidarity, promoting training and combat readiness ability, safeguard firmly national seas and islands sovereignty and build a prosperous and strong island district.

The General wished them a joyful and happy Tet and hoped they would achieve all task fulfillments in 2018.

On the same day, while inspecting DK1/12 and DK1/15 platforms under Battalion DK1 of Naval Region 2, generals Cuong and Huong hailed the troops’ task performance and said that the CMC and MND always believe in and wish them to stand steady to defend the national sovereignty over the seas and islands and bring into full play the spirit of self-reliance, overcome all difficulties to complete all training and combat readiness missions, build healthy and strong Party cells and comprehensively strong units.

Gen. Cuong wished them a happy Tet and success for the New Year.

On the occasion, the mission visited Army Corps 18 at Vung Tau Airport.

Highly appreciating the unit’s achievements, Gen. Cuong tasked it to continue to bring into full play its tradition, foster and make full use of its personnel to develop its services in the future.
