General Le Van Dung was Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former permanent member of the Central Military Commission, former Chief of the General Staff, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, and former Director of the General Department of Political Affairs.
General Secretary To Lam, the family of former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, President Luong Cuong, permanent member of the PCC’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, and Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang sent funeral wreaths in tribute to General Dung.
At exactly 6:00 a.m., amidst the solemn and mournful “the Soul of Fallen Soldiers” melody, the respect-paying ceremony officially began in an atmosphere of deep solemnity and emotion.

The delegation of the Party Central Committee (PCC), led by Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Standing Deputy Secretary of the National Assembly (N.A.) Party Committee, and N.A. Standing Vice Chairman paid tribute to General Le Van Dung and extended condolences to his family.
With deep affection and profound gratitude for the great merits and contribution of General Dung, Do Van Chien emotionally wrote in the condolence book that “with 81 years of life and 60 years of Party membership, General Dung made great and outstanding contribution to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. His revolutionary life stands as a shining example for compatriots, comrades, officers, and soldiers nationwide to cherish, study, and follow. His passing is an immeasurable loss to our Party, State, military, and people.”
Delegations from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Government, the State President, ministries, departments, sectors, localities, armed forces, international delegates also came to pay respect to the General.
The delegation of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and the Ministry of National Defense (MND) was led by General Nguyen Trong Nghia, permanent member of the CMC and Director of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP).
Writing in the condolence book, Gen. Nghia emphasized that Gen. Dung was a steadfast communist Party member, a decisive and courageous general, who made numerous contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the State, the military, and the people. Throughout his revolutionary life, in all conditions, circumstances, and positions, he consistently upheld the integrity and qualities of a communist, an exemplary military leader.
The delegation of the General Staff, led by its Deputy Chief Lt. Gen. Do Ba Luc and the delegation of the GDP, led by its Director Gen. Nghia paid tribute to the late leader.
At 10:30 a.m. the same day, the memorial service for General Le Van Dung took place. Reading the eulogy, Do Van Chien highlighted the general’s great contributions and merits to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party, nation, and to the military building cause as well.
The burial service was held in the afternoon the same day in General Le Van Dung’s hometown in Phu Tuc commune, Vinh Long province.
