Major General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said that at a seminar, themed “Building the Vietnam Coast Guard into a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modernized force to meet the requirements of missions in the new period,” held on August 22, as part of key political activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the foundation day of the force (August 28, 1998 - 2023).

Reports delivered at the seminar revealed that over the past years, thoroughly grasping the Party’s guidelines on defense and military, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command has closely cooperated with functional forces to make recommendations to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to issue guidelines and policies to flexibly and effectively handle situation at sea in a timely manner; resolutely fought against foreign ships’ encroachment on national sovereignty, sovereignty rights, and jurisdiction; strengthened patrols to prevent crimes at sea; well conducted search and rescue.

At the event, delegates affirmed the significance of the establishment and development of the coast guard force. They also proposed measures to build the coast guard force to be capable of managing and protecting sovereignty and maintaining law enforcement at sea to firmly safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands.

They agreed that the coast guard force should continue to forecast and closely follow situational developments to make recommendations to the Party, State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense to issue guidelines and policies to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and national interests at sea; focus on enhancing training quality; ensure equipment for combat readiness missions; build a comprehensively strong, outstanding, exemplary unit that is ready to undertake and well completed assigned missions. 

Delegates also said that the coast guard force should cooperate with agencies, units, functional agencies, and authorities of coastal localities to strengthen dissemination to prevent and effectively handle violations of laws at sea; actively respond to and mitigate consequences of natural disasters; conduct search and rescue; give support to people.
