Military tightens preventive measures against COVID-19 pandemic
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Defense Ministry’s Steering Board for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, led a mission of the ministry to join a teleconference with the Standing Board of the Government on April 6.
The mission includes Lieutenant General Le Hien Van, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics, Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and Lieutenant General Tran Duy Giang, Director of the General Department of Logistics.
In the report to the Prime Minister, General Don stressed that the Steering Board of the Defense Ministry for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has closely embraced resolutions and directives of higher levels, issued documents instructing units to conduct comprehensive measures in response to the urgent period of the COVID-19 pandemic prevention (from March 31 to April 15), build concrete plans to deal with emergency situations, and set up mobile medical teams and field hospitals.
Meanwhile, the border guards across the country were required to enhance patrols and control at border gates and trails in the shared border areas between Vietnam and the neighboring countries of China, Laos and Cambodia. At the moment, the military is conducting medical quarantine for 14,000 and expanding the quarantine areas to receive more returners from Cambodia and Laos.
In order to effectively control the pandemic, General Don proposed the Government and the Prime Minister to close entry till April 15. In addition, he suggested ministries and local agencies to enhance coordination and information exchange to implement effective preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
